The American city of St. Petersburg has an extensive history in the country\u2019s motorsport scene, beginning in the mid-1980s and returning 10 years later with two different track layouts for the Trans-Am championship. In 2003, CART organized a return to the city with a modified version of the circuit by the waterfront. Later, in 2005, IndyCar made the St. Petersburg Grand Prix its first race held outside an oval track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
