The new 0.4 update for Assetto Corsa Rally is set to mark a turning point for the simulator, bringing not only new content but a clear evolution in how the game replicates modern rally driving. Scheduled for release on April 30, this update from 505 Games blends nostalgia, innovation, and a stronger link to real-world motorsport, pushing the experience to a new level.

90s icons arrive in the simulator

The headline additions are two legendary cars representing completely different rally philosophies. The Peugeot 306 Maxi Kit Car and the Subaru Impreza S3 Group A deliver radically different driving experiences.

The Peugeot 306 Maxi, homologated in 1997, is a true icon of the Kit Car era, featuring front-wheel drive and a high-revving naturally aspirated engine. Designed for tarmac, it stood out for its lightness, agility, and ability to challenge four-wheel-drive rivals, even disrupting the established rally hierarchy.

On the other hand, the 1993 Subaru Impreza S3 is one of the most iconic cars in WRC history. Driven by legends such as Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz, it marked the beginning of Subaru’s golden era, combining all-wheel drive with a boxer engine to deliver top performance on gravel and snow. This platform led McRae to his 1995 world title, cementing the Impreza’s legendary status.

Snow, refined physics and real-world input

The update also introduces new weather conditions, bringing snow to the Alsace and Wales rallies, adding a fresh layer of challenge. Surfaces have been redesigned to better simulate grip transitions, making driving more demanding and realistic.

The biggest leap comes in the physics. Tire behavior has been significantly refined, especially in wet and snowy conditions, making transitions between grip and loss of control more immediate and natural. Aerodynamics and suspension systems have also been updated to deliver a more communicative and predictable driving experience at the limit.

Part of this evolution comes from a direct collaboration with Jon Armstrong, an M-Sport WRC driver. His feedback played a crucial role in refining braking, traction loss, and car control, bringing the simulator closer to real-world dynamics.

Beyond new cars and physics improvements, update 0.4 introduces support for advanced technologies like Fanatec FullForce and Logitech TrueForce, significantly enhancing force feedback and immersion. Audio has also been upgraded, with new engine and exhaust sounds, alongside visual improvements, particularly in snow conditions.

Content has expanded with new events, track fixes, and UI improvements. From updated pacenotes to bug fixes and online stability enhancements, every detail has been refined to create a smoother and more consistent experience.

More than just an update, this version represents a major step forward. Combining 90s nostalgia, new conditions, and a relentless focus on realism, Assetto Corsa Rally 0.4 stands as one of the most significant evolutions in rally simulation.

And for players, one thing is certain: it has never been more challenging — or more rewarding — to tackle a rally stage.
